The Managing Director of PIC Education (PIC) is Gareth James. He is a chartered Chemical Engineer with over 35 years’ experience working within the high hazard process industries.
Gareth worked for BP for over 30 years gaining multinational experience of managing operations. For 8 years he was the most senior manager at top tier UK COMAH petrochemical sites. Following the 2005 Texas City refinery explosion and subsequent Baker panel report he developed the BP Group Operating Management System (OMS) which integrates process safety management into a single complete operating and HSSE management system. During his BP career he conducted operating and process safety leadership training in Europe, USA and Asia. He led process safety audits in the USA and Germany, a fatality investigation in Belgium and a major process safety accident investigation in the UK.
Gareth left BP in 2009 and has since been the Managing Director of companies providing process safety education. He has developed a reputation for being one of the leading training consultants in this sector.
